Dear Yuletide Writer 2023
Thank you so much for writing for me! I would honestly love anything for any of these characters, and I'm very excited to see what you come up with, so please know that the prompts below are just ideas, not meant to be binding or exclusive in any way. If you have something in mind that you love and has nothing to do with any of my prompts, please feel absolutely free to write that. If you have fun writing it, I'll have fun reading it! ♥
I've requested all of these fandoms before, so if you want to go poking around the other letters on this journal or on the app for further prompts and to find out more of what I like about these canons, feel free! I'm still a fan of anything I've requested in the past. I enjoy AUs, crossovers, unusual formats (epistolary fic, poetry, in-universe documents, really anything!), any rating, any type of relationship, plot or no plot, smut or no smut, any level of consent, dubcon, or nonconsent. There's so much that I like and not a whole lot I don't, so please write anything you like and I will love it.
I have treats enabled on my AO3, which is
VanaTuivana.
DNWs: noncanonical death of requested characters, zombies, explicitly-described gore or major injury, unrequested gender changes or gender headcanons.

Moon Knight (Comics)
Steven Grant
Jake Lockley
Over the last 18 months-ish I've read almost every single comic Moon Knight ever appeared in (450+ issues and still going strong!), and the one constant since 1975 is that Jake and Steven never get enough page time and attention to characterization compared to Marc, and they especially don't get enough space devoted to exploring their relationship independent of Marc! I'd love any exploration of these two in whatever era is your favorite. I'm very fond of the current-day versions of Steven the cool, collected, logical and occasionally shark-like observer and Jake the rough-around-the-edges, jovial, personable caretaker, but I do also love the original versions of Steven the charming, social playboy millionaire and Jake the gruff, no-nonsense man of the streets, and almost anything in between! (I'd prefer to ignore that period when Jake was a cold, sadistic killer having a dubcon relationship with Marlene behind Marc's back, though.) I'd love to know about the understanding between them that has allowed them to handle the often troublesome Marc, or maybe an adventure where they both take center stage, either as Moon Knight or in their civilian identities. Really, anything you want to write about these two I'd be delighted to read!
I am such a big fan of the original Moench run and the delicious identity issues and struggles the group went through, especially the periods where Marc had his breakdowns and wanted to disappear and leave Steven in charge because he thought everyone would be happier that way. What if he had succeeded, or partially succeeded, and Steven and Jake had to work together to handle Moon Knighting and balance their individual lives while trying to bring Marc back and get themselves back into balance? Any kind of mission or adventure with both of them front and center using their particular skills for heroism would be so neat.
In the current book, I love that Marc is letting Jake and Steven loose more and that they've come to an understanding and are getting along better than they historically have, but they still don't get enough to do and they definitely don't get enough time interacting with the rest of the Midnight Mission crew (that time Jake took Reese and Soldier and the vampires out dancing is the exception -- absolutely loved that and wish it would happen more)! I'd love anything exploring their relationships with Reese and Soldier and Badr, how they're handling Marc's romance with Tigra, whether they're on board with 8-Ball joining the team... really, anything you want to write about their perspective on the current situation is great.
I'm interested in all the different ways the shared headspace has been depicted in various comics depending on who's in control of it -- Marc's empty desert, Jake's strip club/bar, Steven's skyscraper boardroom -- and the way their headspace, dreams, hallucinations, psychic incursions, etc. let them interact "in person". Anything along those lines would be so neat! Just hanging out while Marc is in charge or working on a problem together or having to journey through Marc's tumultuous dreams to find and rescue him from the clutches of Morpheus or somebody. I don't consistently ship any of Marc/Steven/Jake enough to have a preference but any combination is fine with me, so whether this is a brotherly or platonic or romantic face-to-face meeting, feel free to write whatever you like and I'll love it!
Alpha Flight
Jean-Paul Beaubier
Joanne Beaubier
Joanne only ever appeared in one issue of Alpha Flight (#106, the same one where JP famously came out by punching a dude while shouting "I am gay!"), but I've been fascinated with Joanne as Jean-Paul's adopted infant daughter who tragically died ever since and would love anything about JP as a father. She's a blank slate as her only appearance was as a tiny baby, so any way you want to go with Joanne as a character is fine by me: have her as an infant, a young kid, a teen, an adult, whatever you like. I think I'd prefer something on the happier side of things rather than pure angst: JP has had such a tragic life and I always want to see him happy. But! If you have an angsty idea (because, I mean... this is a story about a dead baby, it's off the charts sad already) I would also eat that up with a spoon as I love crying about my faves, so please follow your heart and I will love it.
An AU where Joanne survives and grows up would be amazing! I'd love any interpretation of what JP's life would've been like if he'd had her instead of being alone all those years, how it might have affected his career with Alpha Flight or the X-Men, his relationships with his sister or any boyfriends he might have had... just how things would be different. Open to any ship you like if you want to go this route; I'm an old-school Northstar/Iceman and Northstar/Sasquatch fan so either of those would be especially neat, but JP staying single and solo parenting with the help of other Alpha Flight members, still getting together with Kyle, or developing a relationship with someone new and unexpected is also up my alley! If you want to keep her as an adorable baby or young child in the original Alpha Flight era, look ahead to when she's a teenager and their relationship might get tempestuous (that Beaubier temper...), or go a far-future route and have Joanne as an adult and JP an old retired guy, any of that would be wonderful. Or all of it, as a series of vignettes of Joanne at various ages while different bits of Marvel continuity play out in the background! Huge fan of 5 Times + 1 Time fic and all variants, and anything like that would be neat here.
Fairly recently, in X-Men: The Trial of Magneto #5, it's revealed that Joanne would have been a mutant if she'd survived and that she's been added to the resurrection queue; the news leaves JP and Kyle in happy tears as they prepare to be parents, and I've been waiting with bated breath for this to actually happen ever since. It hasn't! I'm broken! I would love, love, love to read any fic taking place in the future of the Krakoa era (or the current Fall of X/Alpha Flight "Divided They Stand" era) where Joanne is resurrected and Jean-Paul finally gets to be a dad to her. Totally happy with either a focus on JP-as-dad alone with Kyle in the background, or their relationship being in the foreground as they adjust to raising their new yet so-long-missed daughter, or whatever you like!
If you want to go the sadder and more canon route, I'm also totally happy with leaving Joanne in the past and with a fic that's more about Jean-Paul remembering his brief time with her! Make me ugly-cry about his feelings during that issue, when he felt so helpless watching her struggle and he could protect her from Major Mapleleaf coming to harm her but not from the illness destroying her from the inside, about later times during his life when he thinks about her and imagines what her life could have been like, about him in the future adopting a child and remembering his first. I'm a fan of tragedy and would adore that. I also love him being supported by the rest of the Alpha Flight team and all of them remembering and mourning Joanne together, that would be just lovely.
The Baron - Johnny Cash (Music Video)
The Baron
Billy Joe
What can I even say about this song and music video? Johnny Cash and (his IRL son-in-law) young Marty Stuart challengingly eyeing each other across a pool table is very tense and hot, which makes it spicy when the dad/son reveal happens. Any exploration of these two and their past and future would be neat, whether shippy or platonic or somewhere in between! I'm really interested in any reading of the lyrics and the video and would be very happy with anything you want to write.
I like the idea of a supernatural/eldritch explanation for why the Baron couldn't go back to his wife and son for twenty years: maybe he was trapped by the fae or bartering his way through seven hells or stuck in a mirror dimension, maybe his pearl-handled stick and fancy boots are elf-made, maybe he sold his soul to the devil for the fancy stick and he has an evil plan to deliver his son's soul in his place, or maybe he's come back to save Billy Joe from the consequences of a deal with the devil he now regrets... any direction this could go would be neat!
Or maybe the Baron himself is some kind of supernatural entity (a fairy lord, an immortal shapeshifter, a baron of hell?) and the challenge is a test of whether his half-human or changeling son is worthy of his heritage. Maybe if Billy Joe had bested the Baron, he would have become a supernatural being? Maybe only one of them can live on the mortal plane at a time, but there's some kind of clever folktale-like way for them to break the curse and be together?
If you're like me and ship it like whoa, Billy Joe betting his 'ring' against the Baron's 'stick' is prime innuendo material, just saying, so this could totally just be a sex thing all along. Maybe the dad/son reveal and the appearance of Mrs. The Baron only happens after they've already screwed in the bar bathroom to pay off that bet, and then things get awkward.
